The launching of Anchorage Printing came in 1953 with the acquisition of the Anchorage Times’ former commercial printing equipment. With a staff of three, the shop took up residence in the basement of a former night club, The South Seas, in downtown Anchorage. Some of the first ads for Anchorage Printing said, “The only print shop in the world with a dance floor, a barbecue pit and a tiled urinal.” In December of 1966, Anchorage Printing relocated to our current location, what was then “the suburbs” of Anchorage at 3110 Spenard Road. Today Anchorage Printing, still under the same family ownership, employs over 30 employees and is the largest commercial web press printer in the State of Alaska.
Over 30 years ago, Anchorage Printing added its own publishing company, GreatLander Publications, as its in-house publishing division. GreatLander Publications now publishes two monthly papers: The GreatLander Bushmailer, direct mailed to 235 Rural Communities in Alaska, and The GreatLander Mat-Su, direct mailed to the Matanuska-Susitna Valley north of Anchorage. These two publications have a distribution of over 93,000 each month.
Still owned and operated by the Rhodes Family – its modest roots in a nightclub basement in a wild and crazy Last Frontier to a world class printing and publishing company – Anchorage Printing and GreatLander Publications have earned a reputation for providing quality printing and advertising at competitive prices. Our continued growth and success is a direct result of our satisfied customers and our wonderful team of employees working for you.
